Our Purpose

HealthPath believes health is a human right. Our purpose is to eliminate barriers that drive health inequities and prevent Ohioans from achieving their best health.
The Challenge We Are Addressing:
Despite progress, health inequities in Ohio remain deeply rooted in systemic disinvestment, discriminatory policies, fragmented care infrastructure, and the exclusion of community voice. Power remains concentrated in institutions least impacted by injustice, while those most affected often lack the agency, investment, and opportunity to lead. These dynamics result in inequitable access, outcomes, and trust across the systems that shape health.
Ohio's Health Equity Crises
Ohio ranks near the bottom nationally on health outcomes, with four critical areas defining the landscape:
Behavioral Health & Substance Abuse
Nearly 1 of 4 Ohioans
experience mental illness.
Yet less than half receive treatment.
Suicide and overdose deaths
remain alarmingly high.
Chronic Disease
Burden
6 of 10 leading causes of death in Ohio are chronic illness.
Black and Appalachian residents are experiencing disproportionately high and premature mortality.
Maternal & Infant Health Disparities
Pregnancy-related mortality has risen. More than 60% of deaths are preventable.
Black infants die at 2.4 times
the rate of white infants.
Healthcare Workforce Shortages
Ohio faces deficits of more than 1,200 physicians + 9,000 nurses.
And with severe gaps in
mental health care.
